Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s. In that era, an unknown printer made a large collection of type sizes and shapes, using Lorem Ipsum to produce type specimen books. Lorem Ipsum has survived five centuries unchanged, and has been popularised by the electronic design industry. It was popularised in modern times by the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum samples in the 1960s, and more recently by desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker which use Lorem Ipsum in their templates.
It has long been recognised that when assessing the design and layout of text, readable text can be a distraction. Lorem Ipsum is used because it provides a more-or-less standard layout, and a realistic distribution of letters and spacing within paragraphs that would not be produced by simply copying “Your text here.. Your text here.. Your text here..” Many desktop publishing packages and HTML editors use Lorem Ipsum as their default text, so a search for “lorem ipsum” will reveal many web pages still awaiting their proper birth. There have been many versions of Lorem Ipsum over the years. Some versions have been introduced by mistake, and some are intentional (injected humour).
Many people think of Lorem Ipsum as a crudely plucked pseudo-Latin word count, but this is not entirely true. It goes back to a single piece of Classical Latin from around 45 AD, over two millennia ago. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, took one of the strangest words in Lorem Ipsum, “consectetur”, and searched for it in classical Latin literature. He ended up finding the undisputed source of Lorem Ipsum in sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of a book called “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (On the Limits of Good and Evil), written by Cicero in 45 AD. It was a popular ethical treatise in the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from one of the lines in section 1.10.32
